T minus 16 days and counting

Memorial Day-We went for a 50 mile bicycle ride this morning. Both of us could have gone for another fifty miles. Our big concern is still the lack of hills +/or mountains to train on.

Change in plans on starting point

We purchased our airline tickets and will be starting our trip on June 16th in Portland, Oregon. The desert in Nevada gave us a lot of concern so we decided to begin further north and add 350 miles to the trip. The eastern desert of Oregon is not too friendly either but after crossing eastern Washington, we know what to expect. We were told to bring 35 pounds of water if we went through Nevada. That would have put my payload at 125 pounds!

We are currently conditioning for the big ride

Deb and I are training two times a day with our stationary training bicycle to rapidly get into shape. We are planning to fly from Panama City to Sacramento, California on the 13th of June to begin a west to east coast cross country bicycle trip. We will disassemble our bicycles and fly them out to California with us. We are looking at pedaling between 3000 and 4000 miles. Time may be a factor and it could force us to take the shortest route versus the most interesting and challenging route.
