We left Green River, Wyoming this morning expecting to be camping in the middle of nowhere, since that is where 70-80 miles would take us. The wind (25 mph tailwind) and the terrain being fairly constant between 6500 and 7300 feet above sea level made the day exceptional for cycling. We totaled 123 miles from 8 A.M and 9:15 P.M. averaging 12.8 mph. That is the top mileage and speed for the trip thus far. We were reassured of our progress when we crossed the Continental Divide two times. The way the route took us we had to climb 3000 feet twice to get over the divide. The Continental Divide is a ridge of the Rocky Mountains forming a North American watershed that separates rivers flowing in an easterly direction from those flowing in a westerly direction. For those of you keeping track, flat tire number 7. The picture showing the Continental Divide was taken jusst before we quit riding for the day. Yes, it was nearly dark and we hate to ride after sunset.
FYI. I try to include educational facts that can be read by students who are following this trip, and hopefully gain some geographical knowledge of this great country of ours.
