DAY 23 JULY 11, 2010

114 miles!! We traveled from Syracuse, KS to Dodge City, KS. We crossed over to Central Standard Time when we entered Kansas. It was 96 degrees and the wind was blowing hard all day. We were nearly dehydrated from the heat but thanks to Chris and her two daughters in Syracuse, KS they rescued us. (Heather, study hard if you want to be a lawyer). We took off two hours today to watch the World Cup Soccer Game with Spain defeating Netherlands 1-0.

We met an oil worker who informed us that it is critical to purchase the mineral rights when you buy land. Other parts of the country are not concerned about this. But if someone else has the mineral rights, they can drill and extract the gas or oil from your property. Mineral rights may be defined as the right of ownership of the mineral resources which underlie a tract of land. With the right of mineral ownership is the right to explore for, develop, and produce the mineral resources. There are a lot of Pump Jacks present among the grazing cattle.

We are anxious to pick up our two way communicators at the post office on Monday. We bought them on Ebay and had them shipped to Dodge City. We will use them on the rest of the trip to to talk to each other regardless of the traffic or separation distance. We will update the Blog on how they work.
